Selection of Coffee Scales

Weighing your coffee, regardless of the extraction method, is fundamental to ensure optimal reproducibility in your preparations.
Some beginners use measuring spoons, but as you progress in the world of coffee, an accurate scale quickly becomes indispensable.
There are models for all budgets, from the most compact to the most sophisticated. Here is our complete selection.
Scales for espresso
Entry-level options: jeweler’s scales
Entry-level models are found between 10 and 20 €.
Compact, sufficiently accurate for coffee, they are actually jeweler’s scales.
They don’t include a timer, but are more than adequate for weighing your grounds.

Hario is a Japanese brand renowned for its

affiliate linkextraction systems and coffee grinders.
This versatile scale, with 0.1 g precision, is ideal for espresso as well as pour-over.

Personally, I didn’t choose this model when replacing my scale because I find it expensive compared to the competition.
Timemore scales
A Taiwanese brand specializing in high-end equipment, Timemore offers rechargeable scales with USB-C.
This is the brand I chose to buy my scale equipped with a timer.
My first choice was the Timemore Black Mirror first generation (now discontinued). Although accurate, it had a defect that has since been corrected: the touch buttons remained powered, which drained the battery in about two months.
It remained minimalist (simple timer and weighing, no ratio calculations).

Today, I use the Timemore Black Mirror Nano, with which I am fully satisfied. However, its price has increased, reducing the initial value for money.

Normcore is another essential brand in the coffee world.
They produce quality accessories (tampers, WDT to avoid channeling, etc.).
Their scale offers an excellent compromise between price and quality.

Scales for V60 and gentle brew methods
All the scales mentioned above can be suitable for gentle methods, but some are specifically designed for these extractions, with a price often higher.
Fellow scales
The Fellow brand is known for its high-end products aimed at enthusiasts.
I have never tested their scale, but the quality of their products is undeniable — I use their Fellow Stagg EKG kettle and I was able to test their grinders at the coffee show in Paris, which impressed me.

Here is Fellow’s promotional video showcasing their scale (quite entertaining):
This scale is ideal for pour-over: simply enter the amount of coffee and the desired ratio, and it automatically calculates the amount of water to pour.
