Here’s an article, perhaps a bit off-series compared to the usual content of this blog. I’m presenting the video game Coffee Talk, a visual novel developed by the Indonesian independent studio Toge Productions. It’s a game I discovered by chance thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass affiliate link.
An experience of listening and comfort
The game follows a barista, owner and sole employee of the eponymous café Coffee Talk in Seattle, Washington. Coffee Talk is an interactive experience. The game encourages you to listen to the characters, share their concerns, and help them by preparing hot beverages, combining the ingredients at your disposal. Coffee Talk offers a captivating immersion into lives as human as possible, featuring protagonists far more complex than simple humans.
Atmosphere, pace and feeling
It’s a relatively short game. However, it should simply be perceived as a story that carries you away thanks to its soothing music and measured dialogues. Some characters particularly touched me, plunging me into their situations. This game gave me a moment of calm: the feeling of playing under my duvet with a soft piano melody in the background, while reading a book.
If you’re looking for this type of experience, I highly recommend it. However, if you’re seeking excitement, complex game mechanics, or intellectual challenges, this game is not for you. It’s more akin to a story, to a tale to be savored leisurely.
